Defender Steve Howey made just one subs appearance for Pools at the end of a professional career that might have brought him more than his four England caps if he had not been badly affected by injuries during his peak years. A product of Newcastle United`s youth system, he played around 200 games for the Tyneside club and a further 100 for Manchester City. After a brief spell in the USA he made his solitary Pools appearance at Colchester in April 2005.
