In one of the highlights of a dismal season, Pools thumped Exeter on this day in 1971 thanks to to two goals from Ralph Wright. Tony Bircumshaw made his last appearance in a Pools shirt when he replaced David Harvey in the second half. Bircumshaw, a key part of the promotion winning side of 1967/68, played just under 200 games for the club.
